How Did They Get from Here to There in the Old Days?
"Indian and Colonial Era Highways in Durham County"
Tom Magnuson, Speaker
Sunday, May 2, at 2 P.M.
Durham County Library
Main Library Auditorium
300 N. Roxboro St.
Durham, NC
Tom Magnuson, president of the Trading Path Association, will discuss where
footpaths,
horse trails, and wagon roads lay in the Durham area and what the artifacts
found along
them tell us about the lives of people-red, black, and white-during this
little-studied,
fascinating part of the history of our area. Tom is a highly knowledgeable
and entertaining
speaker that you won't want to miss!
4 P.M. HIKE
After the talk, join Tom for a 1-1 ½ hour hike to view the remains of an old
road bed and
ford, off Johnson Mill Road in northern Durham County. Directions will be
distributed at
the talk and are available on the Trading Path Association web site
(www.tradingpath.org).
This talk is the twelfth annual Linder Lecture, endowed by former Library
Director George
Linder, who was instrumental in building the Durham County Library's North
Carolina
collection. The Linder Lecture and hike are free and open to the public.
