I think this has already been going on awhile - I remember hearing/reading
some time ago about artifacts, etc from Cemeteries showing up in
antique/collectible shops.....
I would certainly think it was probably stolen - also think any reputable
auctioneer should turn down any item which was obviously from a grave or cemetery
- it wouldn't take too much "smarts" to figure that it ought to still be in a
cemetery - someplace!
I just ran across that note & tried to post to some of my NC Lists - some
didn't make it thru, so if either of you still have it, pass it along - this
wouldn't be the 1st time we genealogist have helped save others from possible
destruction or loss.
