Help! I am researching the circumstances surrounding the 1825 murder of Abram KORNEGAY by Joseph SOLLIS, both of Duplin County. I would appreciate your assitance with that (and anything else ther is to know about the SOLLIS family of Duplin County)..
http://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/nc/duplin/court/korngy02.txt alludes to Joseph SOLLIS' indictment for murder. I understand he was convicted and executed in 1827. I believe that Joseph SOLLIS was my great, great, great, great uncle. Joseph's brother, Bryant SOLLIS (1798-1855), the man from whom I derive my middle name, is buried with his wife, Nancy Bryant? SOLLIS and their two sons in the BROCK Cemetery, which is located on the property of Elbert DAVIS, in Beautancus. I have viewed their headstone. Bryant SOLLIS' last will and testament (1851) suggests that he once owned a sizeable amount of land in the Bear Marsh area of Beautancus. That's about all I know.
Another brother, Luke SOLLIS, is my great great great great grandfather. Luke and his wife, Martha Taylor SOLLIS, moved from Duplin County to Gibson County, TN (as did a number of Duplin County residents, for reasons unexplained) in the 1830's. One of their sons, the next Bryant SOLLIS (born in Tennessee, buried in Illinois), apparently named after his Duplin County uncle, is for certain my great great grandfather.
All of this is quite a discovery for a recently transplanted Yankee now residing in close proximity to his long-lost Duplin County roots--the home of his homicidal and law abiding ancestors. I'd like to know what transpired between Joseph SOLLIS and Abram KORNEGAY back in 1825. Can you genealogy jockeys help me, please?
