Hi list,

Several of you indicated an interest in records of Freemasons of Duplin
County. I did some checking at the North Carolina Collection, here in
Chapel Hill. They hold the "Abstracts of Proceedings of the North
Carolina Grand Lodge," starting in 1797, and going forward into the 20th
century. Many years are missing. This is what I found regarding the
Duplin County Lodges from 1797 to 1820:

1797: St. John's Lodge, #13, Duplin County, was represented by Bother
Daniel GLISSON. Duplin failed to file a list of members for this year.

1798: St. John's Lodge, #13, Duplin County Lodge: B. Thomas KENAN
represented Duplin County at Grand Lodge meeting. Duplin Members included
officers: James KENAN - Master, Thomas RUTLEDGE - Treas., Charles WARD -
S. W., Mich. MOLTON - S. D., Patrick NEWTON - J. W., Edward HARRIS - J.
D., George MONNEY, Sec., John ARMSTRONG - Tyler: Members included: Wm.
BECKE, jun., Ivey CLAYBOURNE, Thomas KENAN, Daniel GLISSON, Owen
O'DANIEL, Thomas WRIGHT, John BECK, David MURDOCK, L. STEPHENS, John
McILLWINEN, John BARFIELD, Holden McGEE, Thomas RUTLEDGE, John HURST,
Thomas IVEY, Rigdon BRYAN, Nathaniel McCANNE, Stephen BECK, Wm.
WILKERSON, senr., Samuel HOUSTON, Wm. WILKERSON, jun., Wm. HIGGINS, David
SLOUMBE [sic], Meshack STALLINGS, John LINTON, David WRIGHT, Shadrack
STALLINGS, George McDONALD, George L. LINTON, and James PHOEBUS.

1799: St. John's Lodge, #13, Duplin County: all of the same members above
were also members in this year, but with different officers.

1807, 1811, 1812, 1813, 1814, 1818, no Duplin Lodge is listed for these
years, or the Duplin Lodge was in default for failing to pay dues. No
members were listed.

The reference for the above is: "Abstracts of Proceedings of the North
Carolina Grand Lodge," North Carolina Collection # VC366.2 G 75p, and
C3661.1 G75p.

Request: Could someone put this information in the archives section of
the Duplin genweb pages?

Thanks,

Tom in Chapel Hill
