Hi everyone, a new e-mail friend pointed out to me the other night,
that if my Henry Hill was in fact related to the Rev. Green Hill,
murder would definately not have been an acceptable scenario and would
have been handled as quietly as possible! I sent her the following
response, and then realized that if I posted it to the list, someone
might have the key to unlocking that mystery as well. So I will print
it here:
I do indeed know who the Rev. Green Hill is and I too suspect that it
>may be part of the problem, I just didn't want to offend anyone by
>saying so. I can't prove definitively that my Henry Hill is the
brother
>of the Rev. Green Hill, but I strongly suspect that he was. By my
count
>from the records I've seen, there were in the late 1790's,early 1800's
>no less than 5 separate Henry Hill's wandering around the Franklyn
>county records. I know that my Henry was still alive in 1834, because
>he finally relented and bought a farm and deeded it to his daughter
>Elizabeth who had spent the last 10 years separated from her children.
>By that time, 3 of the 5 Henry Hills are definately dead. I find no
>death record for Henry son of Green, brother to Reverend Green Hill Jr.
>and can find no death record for my Henry. The reverend's brother would
>have been in his 90's in 1834, I have no idea how old my Henry would
>have been then, or even a clue as to when he was born, unless he is the
>reverend's brother. What I can't figure out, is how to prove or
>disprove it all one way or the other with death dates or birth dates
for
>the two of them!!!!

For those of you who are new to Franklyn County research and may not
know of the Hills, the Reverend Green Hill Jr. was highly instrumental
in bringing the Methodist Church to both the state of North Carolina and
the state of Tennessee. As near as I can tell from looking at the
records, the Hill family was into just about everything in the county.
Leaders in religion, politics, and social standing...looking through
just the deeds I have seen, it looks like they owned a good part of
Franklyn County and a couple of others as well. Any information or
ideas are welcome here. I've hit about every dead end I can think of
without gaining some new info to work with. And thanks to those of you
who have offered tantalizing tidbits over the past couple of days, trust
me, every piece of the puzzle, no matter how small, is important. It
could just be the piece that solves the case!!!
