Hi Julie,
I am also trying to learn more about the BRIDGES family in Franklin Co. I
descend from Mary BRIDGERS / BRIDGES who was born in 1807 in NC. She
married Ahijah / Abijah ATKINSON in Franklin Co. in 1824. At this time, I
have no idea who her parents may have been. They moved to AL , then MS,
then finally to Bradley Co.,AR where she died of typhoid fever in 1869.
Have you ever heard of an Alfred BRIDGES? I believe he may be a brother of
hers. He was also in the same places as she and she named one of her sons
Henry Alfred ATKINSON so I think there may be a relationship.
I'd appreciate any insight. I'm going to look at your web page now.
Thanks,
Anne

born in the Franklin County area. I know he was there in 1800 according to
the North Carolina Census. He was born between 1760 and 1770. He was
married to Winnifred (numerous spellings) Wiggins. I believe she is the
daughter of Sampson and Amy Wiggins. Shadrack, according to his grandson's
diary, Ira C. Bridges, has a brother named Benjamin who was in the
Revolutionary War. Benjamin, I do not know anything else about him.
Shadrack had at least 6 children, John, Elizabeth, Archibald, Middy,
Winnifred, and James Bridges. Three of the children, John, Elizabeth, and
Archibald were born in North Carolina. Middy and Winnifred were born in
Tennessee. James, I do not know anything about him.
