Subject: High Point Area Portrait Artists called Limners??
Date: Sun, 03 Apr 2005 15:26:41 -0400
I am resending this since the original post subject line was not clear.
Hello,
OK, so I am not sure if limners is the correct word, but some years ago on the Quaker List there was a discussion about these artist that would travel to homes and do family portraits.
I am wondering if the large 19" wide by 15 1/2" high portrait which includes my grandfather, baby son in the middle my father, and my grandmother was done by an artist who is listed somewhere in Guilford records. For years we gave it no thought, it was a picture, but on close inspection it is a pen and/or pencil rendering with light blue probably water color behind the heads and it is not signed. It has the original 4 inch wide frame of the style back then. This had to have been done after 1906 date of baby sons birth and 1908 date of death of the mother. The child looks probably one year old. It is lovely and a real treasure.
I am sure more of these were done in the area of High Point. If anyone has any ideas about this or where to research I would appreciate a reply.
Thanks,
Martha
