I have a man named Edward Thomas who had a son named Edward Thomas who
may or may not have been in Guilford County, NC in the time frame that
you mention. I suspect that this Thomas family was from Hopewell MM
which would have been close to the area from which your Michael and John
came from. I believe but have no proof (and truly it is just a gut
belief--perhaps just a wish) that the Edward Thomas that I seek was a
descendent of Evan Thomas--one of the founding members of Hopewell MM.

Now again, remember that I am making wild guesses here...I believe that
by the mid to late 1700's, that many of Evan's descendents were moving
south to the area around Newberry County, SC and also to the area near
New Garden MM in Guilford County. And I believe that some of them may
have moved first to one area and then to the other--that is lived at one
time in SC and another in NC. Some of them remained Quaker--some of
them didn't. But in the late 1700's, Nehemiah Thomas of Newberry
County, SC died and left a bequest to Edward Thomas of NC --son of
Edward Thomas. I believe at that time, the Edward Thomas receiving the
bequest would have been a child or very young man. I do not believe
that these Thomas families were traveling alone. And certainly the name
Israel sounds as if it could possibly have been a Quaker name. By the
second decade of the 1800's many of the Thomas men had moved their
families to the Miami River area of Ohio ---just north of Cincinnatti.

Does any of this fit with the John and Michael and Israel Thomas men
that you mention below? Marsha in WV
