am looking for information on my grandfather John Wesley CLARK b. ca 1805
in NC and died after 1880 who may or may not be from the Haywood County NC
CLARKS. My John Wesley had several children/grandchildren who married into
my
SC BURGESS line. Some stayed in NC/SC and others moved to Georgia.
In a letter that I have a copy of date Nov 7, 1864 Marena ROPER BURGESS
wife
of Simeon Ellis BURGESS buried at Oolnoey Baptist Church in Pickens Co., SC
states that "Wash CLARK went to the Yankey's, Bill CLARK was shot for
desertion Old Mr. CLARK and Riley (CLARK) moved to Haywood". I later
found them
in Transylvania, NC. Below is a list of his children by first wife
Elizabeth HARKINS that I aware of:
Moses Clark b ca 1824 SC m. Millie SIMMONS and had eight children and are
buried at Crossroad Baptist Church
James Riley Clark b ca 1828, m Caroline C. (no children that I am aware of
Sarah Clark b May 11, 1930 NC married Lemuel TANKERSLEY in Ellijay, Gilmer
Co., GA and had 7 children
Mahulda Rachel Clark, b. Dec 03 1831 in NC married John Demarcus BURGESS
and
moved to Gilmer Co., GA. and had ten children
William Clark b ca 1835 married Martha ?, was killed in Civil War and had
one son Lemuel George Riley Clark (maybe named for his uncles)
Thomas Wesley Clark b ca 1837 m Mary Jane Burgess daughter of Simeon
BURGESS
and Marena ROPER b at Slauda Hills Baptist Church, Pickens Co., SC. They
had 12 children.
Mary Clark ca 1841 NC
Martha Clark ca 1841 NC
Benjamin CLARK, b ca 1845, NC m Barbara C. moved to Transylvania Co., NC
with his father and brother and is listed in 1880 Census of Transylvania.
Baylis C. Clark b ca 1847 NC, m Harriet E
Lydia Elvira Clark b ca 1851 Greenville Co., SC, m Joseph P. CASE in
Transylvania Co., NC
John Wesley CLARK was a minister when he was in Transylvania, NC census. I
assume that he moved to SC around 1850 cause he is in the 1850 census of
Greenville Co., SC and daughter Elvira was born there and moved to
Transylvanina/Haywood in ca 1864. Any help that anyone can give me on the brick wall
would be appreciated. Thanks.
