I have always been interested in the BATTENs but I never met anyone who was
working on this family until now. I would like to know more! Bev

In the family of Jethro PITTMAN of Johnston County NC, I have these
connections with people named BATTEN:

PITTMAN (James) Elisha ( Jethro, Joseph, Thomas Jr., [ Thomas?], Capt.
Thomas )
Elisha is the only documented son of Jethro PITTMAN. He was born about
1790, probably in Edgecombe County, N.C., and died in 1861 or 1862 in
Johnston County, N.C. The name James Elisha is inferred from that fact
that his son Elisha PITTMAN Jr. has a son who was known as James Elisha
PITTMAN III. Also, Elisha PITTMAN Jr. was referred to as “Jim” PITTMAN in
the newspaper obituary of his daughter Chloe WILKINS.
Elisha married 18 Apr 1818 Mary "Polly" BATTEN ( aged 44 in 1850 d aft June
1857 ) Johnston County, N.C. There is no evidence to date about Mary BATTEN
’s parents.
