Jean, not to "stir up the pot" on this one but I saw two interesting entries
in my Johnston County Marriages 1764-1867 book:

Beedy ONeal married Berry Wilkenson on Nov. 27, 1815.
Bondsman: William Hinnant, Esq.

Beedy ONeal married James Binn on Nov. 27, 1821.
Bondsman: William ONeal.

I have a gut feeling that Beedy was short for Obedience. What do you think?
