Hello,
I'm new to your list. I've had some contact with Suzanne regarding news
clippings. Thanks Suzanne!
My gg grandmother was Mary Susan LIGON b. 20 SEP 1842 in Johnston Co., NC
married 1st to Unknown BATES who died in the Civil War, 2nd to Robert
Monroe HESTER d. 9 NOV 1927. She was nicknamed "Aunt Mitt." Mary Susan
was the daughter of Thomas Henry LIGON and Marilda HOCUTT. I have a
picture of her and know that she was at least part American Indian. Although
I haven't found any sources recording her heritage, my grandmother told me
before she died and my great aunt has signed an affidavit but neither knew
which tribe or surname from which the American Indian blood came.
Thomas Henry "T.H" LIGON b. 8 MAY 1812 in Wake Co., NC married to Marilda
HOCUTT 22 JAN 1840 in Johnston Co., NC d. 20 SEP 1879 in Colbert Co., AL.
Thomas was the son of Samuel LIGON (b. 1770 Amelia Co., VA married 11 NOV
1809 in Amelia Co., VA d. 1854 Franklin Co., AL) and Lucy H. DRAKE (Daughter
of William DRAKE).
Marilda HOCUTT was the daughter of Benjamin HOCUTT and Cynthia RICHARDSON (
b.ca 1795 Johnston Co., NC).
If anyone has any info on the LIGON, HOCUTT, RICHARDSON, or DRAKE surnames,
I'd really appreciate some help.
Thanks,
Kaeli
