Mark,

Is there a connection here to the James Carrol(l) listed on the 1850 census in Johnston County:

James, 50 - shoemaker, born NC
Elizabeth, 45
Piety, 21
Baldy, 18
John 16
Elizabeth, 14
Ruffin, 12
Rueben, 10
Rincey, 8
Hawkins, 6

I've hit a brick wall on this family. I believe this John may be my Great-Great Grandfather who appears with his wife and family on the 1870 Alabama Census in Perry County, living near a Rueben Carroll.

The fact that there is also a Piety in this family is what caught my eye. I don't imagine this was a common name.

Appreciate any info you might have, as I am stumped. I have not been able to locate this family on the 1860 census in Johnston County.

Thank You,
Scott Shuster
Houston, TX
