Subject: Father of Joseph Hopkins (c1842 - 1929)

Joseph died in 1929. He was said to have been buried at Smithwick Chapel, near Williamston. When i visited that site in 2004, there were no gravestones to be seen. We are pretty comfortable with the 1929, though. My mother, his granddaughter recalls from her own experience. The real mystery for us is his father, who, according to Joseph, lived to be 99 years of age. Just working from Joseph's age, we guess that his father could have been born c.1810 - 1820. If he did indeed reach the age of 99, then his date of death might be 1909 - 1919.

If it is of any help, Joseph was married to "Jennie" (Virginia Dare Spruill). I would also be interested in hearing from any who know of her family, too.

Is anyone researching the hopkins or spruill families?
