Laura Morgan Koon, 80, died Monday, July 2, 2001 at Caldwell County Hospital Hospice Center in Lenoir. Born in Rutherford County to the late Gordon and Myrtle Weeks Morgan, she was a homemaker and a member of the First Baptist Church of Marion. She was an active member of the McDowell County Home Extension Club, member of the West Marion Garden Club, and was active in McDowell County 4-H as well as various other organizations. She was also a Montreat College Alumni.
Survivors include two daughters: Phyllis K. Bell, of Marion and Sarah Dianne Galyon of Hendersonville; four brothers: A.G. and Charles Morgan, both of Rutherfordton, George Morgan of Alabama and Max Morgan of Swannanoa; a granddaughter, Laurie Ann Lewis and her husband, Steven, of Apex; and a grandson, Daniel A. Dale, of Hendersonville.
Funeral services were held at 2 pm on Friday, July 6 at First Baptist Church of Marion. The Rev. Dr. Robert Davis officiated and burial was in McDowell Memorial Park. The family received friends from 5-7 pm on Thursday in the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Hospice of McDowell County 218 Logan St. Marion, NC 28752 or Hospice of Caldwell County 902 Kirkwood St. Lenoir, NC 28645. Westmoreland Funeral Home assisted the family.
