Rena Turner McCall, 89, of Marion, died Wednesday, July 18, 2001 at her residence. Born in McDowell County to the late Leonard Monroe Turner and Daisy Davis Turner Stott, she was a lifelong resident of McDowell County and active member of the community as well as a member of the First Baptist Church of Marion. Mrs. McCall was a woman of many talents such as cake decoration, cooking, art and crafts. She was also well known for her beautifully knitted afghans and was also an avid Bridge player. She loved her days on Lake James fishing with her close friends. She is preceded in death by her husband, Carl Clayborn McCall and daughter, Hope McCall Atwell.
Survivors include her son, Dickie McCall of Drexel, NC; her daughter, Diane McCall Whisnant of Simpsonville, SC; nine grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren and seven great-great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 2 pm on Friday, July 20, 2001 at First Baptist Church of Marion. Dr. Robert Davis officiated and burial was in Oak Grove Cemetery. The family received friends one hour prior to the service in the church parlor. Memorials may be made to Hospice of McDowell County 218 Logan St. Marion, NC 28752 or First Baptist Church of Marion 99 North Main Street Marion, NC 28752. Westmoreland Funeral Home assisted the family.
