Floy Kathleen Street McKay passed gently into heaven on July 20, 2001. Floy was born October 21, 1909, to Rev. Sanford Marion Street and Mary Caroline McKinnon in Marshall County, Alabama. She grew up in Etowah County, Alabama, where she graduated from Glencoe High School. She married Sherrill Elmer McKay on December 25, 1938. They spent their married life in Gadsden until 1993 when they moved to Old Fort, North Carolina, to live with their daughter and her family. She was a salesperson in several dress shops in Gadsden for 30 years until her retirement in 1974.
Floy was a member of East Gadsden Baptist Church until she moved to Old Fort. At the time of her death, she was a member of Beverly Hill Baptist in Church in Asheville. She was an active participant in the activities of the Senior Nutrition Center in Old Fort until she became a resident of McDowell Nursing Center in October 1998. Floy participated each year in the Senior Games where she won either silver or gold medals each year.
Floy was preceded in death by her husband, Sherrill, two brothers, Bernard Street, Hubert Street, and two sisters, Bivie Street and Lois Ford.
She is survived by two daughters and son-in laws, Syndey and Tom E. Lolley of Old Fort, North Carolina; Diane and Wayne Jennings of Glencoe, Alabama; five grandchildren, Tim Lolley and wife, Susan of Asheville, North Carolina; Beth Silver and husband, Lamar, of Old Fort, North Carolina, Terry Jennings of Southside, Alabama, Sherry Roden of Gadsden, Alabama, and Bill Jennings of Glencoe, Alabama. She also is survived by five great-grandchildren, Kyle and Anna Sliver of Old Fort, North Carolina, Michael Lolley and Ashley and Brian Curtis of Asheville, North Carolina, and Kristi and Sam Roden of Gadsden, Alabama. She is also survived by a brother, Malcolm Street and his wife, Mildred, of Anniston, Alabama, as well as by several nieces and nephews and their families.
In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorial donations be made to the church of your choice. The family will receive friends following the service at the home of Beth Silver, 1032 Ebenezer Church Road. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Kirksey Funeral Home, Marion, North Carolina.
