George Beecher Walden, Jr., 85, of Marion, died Monday, July 23, 2001 in McDowell Nursing Center. Born in Inman, SC, to the late George Beecher Walden, Sr. and Vesta Taylor Walden, he was retired from Duke Power Company. He was a member of East Marion United Methodist Church and had served in the US Marine Corps during WWII. He is preceded in death by his wife, Edna Parker Walden.
Survivors include a son, George B. Walden, III, of Marion; a daughter, Julia Elaine Harklerode, of Icard, SC; and four grandchildren: George, Lee, Renee and Sean.
The funeral service will be held at 11 am on Thursday, July 26, 2001 at Westmoreland Chapel. The Rev. William Lovelace will officiate and burial will be in McDowell Memorial Park. The family received friends one hour prior to the service at the Westmoreland Funeral Home. Memorial donations may be made to East Marion United Methodist Church 101 First St. E.M. Marion, NC 28752. Westmoreland Funeral Home is assisting the family.
