Virgia McKee Banner, age 79, of Old Fort, died Tuesday, August 2, 2001 in Autumn Care of Marion. Born in Avery County to the late Clayton and Laura Hicks McKee she was a retired employee of the Old Fort Library and a member of Old Fort First Baptist Church. She was the wife of the late Earl Banner. She was also preceded in death by a son, Winston Walter Banner.
Surviving are five sons, Roy Banner of Lincolnton, NC, Randy Banner and Ronnie Banner both of Old Fort, NC, Archie Banner of Greer, SC, Donnie Norwood of Maiden, NC, five daughters, Dimple Buchanan of Spruce Pine, NC, Earline Stewart of Valdese, NC, Barbara Clark of Linville, NC, Brenda Walker of Lenoir, NC, Margie Bailey of Granite Falls, NC; 25 grandchildren, 48 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 3 pm Saturday, August 4, 2001 in the Old Fort Chapel of Kirksey Funeral Home. Rev. J.C. Wilson and Rev. James Lane officiated and burial was in Cherry Springs Memorial Park. The family received friends from 2-3 prior to the service at the funeral home. Kirksey Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
