My g-g-g-gf was John Maffitt (note spelling) of McDowell County. I have a copy of the 1850 census which showed him living with his 54-year old daughter, Elizabeth, at that time. His age was shown as 80 but I believe he was actually 84 as I have evidence that he was born in 1767. He died in 1854. My gf, Ulysses Sherman Moffitt, changed the spelling of his surname after he moved to California in 1909.
