Carolina “Kay” Hensley Sluder, 89, of Marion, died Monday, August 27, 2001 at The McDowell Hospital. Born in McDowell County to the late John F. and Anna Godfrey Hensley, she was formerly an employee at Elliott Hosiery Mill and McPar Hosiery Mill. She was a member of Clinchfield Baptist Church. She is preceded in death by two husbands: John Ray Ellis & Maurice Sluder and a grandson, Mark Scott Ellis.
She is survived by two sons: James B. Ellis and wife, Loretta, of Suffolk, VA, and John R. Ellis, and wife, Alice, of Marion; a brother, Charles Hensley, of Hampton, VA; four grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11 am on Thursday, August 30, 2001 at Westmoreland Chapel. The Rev. Ken Page will officiate and burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to Clinchfield Baptist Church 1150 East Court Street Marion, NC 28752 or Alzheimer’s Association WNC Chapter 3 Louisiana Avenue Asheville, NC 28806-3419. Westmoreland Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
