John C. “Buddy” Laughridge, 69, of Marion, died in Memorial Mission Hospital, Wednesday, August 2, 2000. Born in Gainesboros, TN, to the late Obie and Grace Conley Laughridge, he was owner of Laughridge Construction, Co. since 1972. He was appointed to the National and State Board of Building Codes and built numerous buildings in McDowell County and Western North Carolina. Buddy had served in the Air Force and was also a graduate of NC State as a civil engineer. He was Valedictorian of his graduating class at Marion High.
Surviving is his wife, Ruby Conger Laughridge; a son, John C. “J. J.” Laughridge, and his wife, Tina, of Marion; a daughter, Nancy Ann Laughridge, of Charlotte; a sister, Margueritte Anderson, of Raleigh; and one grandson, Todd Conley Laughridge, of Marion.
Funeral services were held at 2 pm on Friday, August 4, 2000 at Westmoreland Chapel and burial was in McDowell Memorial Park. The family received friends from 1-2 pm one hour prior to the service at Westmoreland Funeral Home. Memorial donations may be American Red Cross McDowell Chapter 15 N Garden St. Marion, NC 28752 or Hospice of McDowell County 116 N. Logan Street Marion, NC 28752. Westmoreland Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
