Ruby Turner McKinney, 82, of Waycaster Road, Marion, NC, died Tuesday, October 2, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. Born in McDowell County to the late Jarvis and Bessie Davis Turner, she was a homemaker and a member of Pleasant Gardens Baptist Church. At the church, she was a member of the Ladies Bible Class and Golden Age Club. She was also a member of Senior Saints and the Clickers Club of Pleasant Gardens. She is preceded in death by her husband, Vera McKinney who died in 1994.
Survivors include four sons, Harold McKinney and his wife, Donna, of Nebo, David McKinney and his wife, Diane, of Pleasant Gardens, Tommy McKinney and his wife, Brenda, of Glenwood and Jeffrey McKinney and his wife, Mary, of Old Fort; one daughter, Sharon Freeman of the home; two sisters, Pauline Good and Louise Queen, both of Hickory; two brothers, Jack Turner of Hickory and Leonard Turner of Glouster, VA; 13 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
The funeral was held Friday, October 5, at 3 P.M. at Pleasant Gardens Baptist Church. Pastor Laney Gregg and Rev. Wayne Slaton officiated and burial followed in McDowell Memorial Park. The family received friends Friday from 2 until 3 P.M. prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Pleasant Gardens Golden Age Club c/o Pleasant Gardens Baptist Church 214 P.G. Baptist Church Road Marion, NC 28752. Kirksey Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
