Paul Thomas Burnette, 82, of Old Fort, died Tuesday, July 11, 2000 at McDowell Hospital. Born in McDowell County to the late Thomas Gordon and Kate Parker Burnette (Aunt Kate), he was a retired carpenter and was also a well known woodcutter and clockmaker. He was also a member of Greenlee Baptist Church.
Surviving is a son, Al Burnette, and his wife, Sherry, of Old Fort; two daughters: Kathy Dee McEntire, and her husband, Junior, of Old Fort, and Jean Gibbs and her husband, Larry, of Glen Alpine; a sister, Jesse Suttles, of Old Fort; 5 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 7:30 pm on Thursday, July 13, 2000, at Greenlee Baptist Church. The Revs. Ricky Mason and James Kisselburg officiated and burial was in McDowell Memorial Park. The family received friends from 6-7:30 pm, prior to the service at the church. Westmoreland Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
