George Reid Grindstaff of Welcome Home Drive, (off Cane Creek Road), Old Fort, died Tuesday, October 16, 2001 at his residence following a period of declining health. In life he served the Lord Jesus Christ; in death he entered into eternal life. He was 98 years old, and a son of the late Owett and Mary Woody Grindstaff. Mr. Grindstaff was preceded in death by three brothers Robert, Bramon, and Malgram Grindstaff, and three sisters Hartley Marsh, Gertie Noblitt, and Juanita Setzer.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 70 years, Ollie Gibson Grindstaff, his two sons and their wives, Glenn and Nancy Grindstaff of Marion, Ray and Joyce Grindstaff of Ellenboro; his two daughters Lucille Lytle and her husband Robert Lytle of Old Fort, Joyce Grindstaff of Lawndale and a former son-in-law William F. Sigmon of Old Fort. He is also survived by his four grandsons and their wives David and Loretta Lytle, Billy and Debra Sigmon, and Joey and Aleshia Sigmon all of Old Fort, and Rev. Eric and Kathy Grindstaff of Marion, nine granddaughters and their husbands, Sandra and J. W. Carpenter of Old Fort, Susan and Lynn Bolick of Lenoir, Robin and Terry Smith of Old Fort, Tina and Barry Grindstaff of Morganton, Tami and Rob Schultz of Old Fort, Cindy Grindstaff and Tracy Grindstaff of Marion, Shannon and Bill Scell of Shelby, NC, De and Allan Peeler of Bostic and nineteen great-grandchildren; two sisters Katherine Jones and Frankie Allison, and a large number of nieces a!
nd nephews.
A funeral service was held at 1:00 PM Wednesday October 17, 2001 in the Chapel of Kirksey Funeral Home, in Old Fort. Rev. Paul Titus of the Old Fort Wesleyan Church officiated, assisted by Rev. Eric Grindstaff, grandson. Burial followed at Bethlehem Community Cemetery. The family received friends following the service at the funeral home. Kirksey Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
