Calvin Willis, age 75, of the Pleasant Gardens Community, died on April 30, 2000 at his residence. Born in McDowell County to the late Loomard B. and Mamie Long Willis he was a US Navy veteran of WWII, a longtime employee of Marion Buick Company. He was a retired charter member of the Pleasant Gardens Volunteer Fire Department and a member of Pleasant Gardens Baptist Church where he served as Chairman of the cemetery committee.
Survivors include his wife, Inez Patton Willis of the home; a son, Lawrence Willis and his wife, Lynn of Marion; two grandsons, Jim Willis of Swainsboro, GA, and Justin Lewis of Marion; a sister, Mrs. Jesse Wiseman of Marion; several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by two sisters and two brothers.
The funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, May 3, 2000 at Pleasant Gardens Baptist Church. Revs. John Setchfield and Bill Dages will officiate and burial will follow in the church cemetery. Westmoreland Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. The family will receive friends from 10:00-11:00 am on Wednesday, May 3, 2000 at Pleasant Gardens Baptist Church. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of McDowell County 116 N. Logan Street Marion, NC 28752 or to Pleasant Gardens Baptist Church Cemetery Fund Rt. 4 Box 652 Marion, NC 28762.
