Rev. J. D. Plemmons, age 73, of Marion, died Tuesday, May 2, 2000 at his residence. Born in McDowell County to the late John Parham and Pricilla Fortner Plemmons he retired form Pyatt Enterprises and had pastored churches in McDowell & Madison Counties. He was one of the founding members of Ashworth Road Baptist Church. He is also preceded in death by two sisters, Selma Smith and Laura Moore.
Survivors include his wife, Emily Elliott Plemmons of the home; two sons, Donald Plemmons and wife, Cathy of Concord, NC and Jeffrey Plemmons of Old Fort; two daughters, Brenda Plemmons of Marion and Sandra Painter and husband, Wayne of Jones Ridge, NC; sister, Martha Plemmons; grandchildren, Cody, Joy and Casey Plemmons, Justin, Dustin, and Taylor Plemmons and Madison and Levi Painter. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 4, 2000 at Ashworth Road Baptist Church. Revs. Johnny Johnson and Gary Webb officiating and burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:30-7:30 p.m. on Wesnesday, May 3, 2000 at Westmoreland Funeral Home. Memorial donations may be made to Ashworth Road Baptist Church, c/o Rev. Johnny Johnson, 250 Huskins Branch Road, Marion, NC 28752 or Hospice of McDowell County 116 N. Logan Street Marion, NC 28752.
