Margaret “Maggie” Pyatt Miller, 80, of Marion, died Saturday, December 15, 2001 at Autumn Care of Marion. Born May 21, 1921, in Cowpens, SC, to the late Samuel D. and Maude Vess Pyatt, she was a homemaker and member of Laurel Springs Baptist Church in Laurel Springs, NC. She died as she lived – with her family around her. She was an active volunteer at McDowell County Hospital. She was an avid gardener and enjoyed cooking and canning. One of her favorite hobbies was decorating eggs for which she was recognized.
Survivors include her husband, James A. “Jim” Miller; a daughter, Beverly B. Robinson, of Asheville; a son, Samuel L. Burgin, of Wagram, NC; two step-sons: James R. Miller of Mooresville, NC and Charles D. Miller, of Indian Trail; a brother, Everette Pyatt, of Marion; three sisters: Ruby P. Powell, Mary P. Brownell, and Betty Jean P. Lunsford, all of Marion; four grandchildren, four step-grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 11 pm Wednesday, December 19, 2001 at Laurel Springs Baptist Church in Laurel Springs, NC. Burial will be in Laurel Springs Baptist Church Cemetery. The family received friends Tuesday from 6-8 pm at Westmoreland Funeral Home. Memorial donations may be made to First Baptist Church of Marion Critical Needs Fund 101 N. Main Street Marion, NC 28752 or Laurel Springs Baptist Church Laurel Springs , NC 28644. Westmoreland Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
