William Woodrow Porter, age 84, of Old Greenlee Rd., Old Fort, NC died Monday, April 17, 2000 in Mountain Ridge Wellness Center, Black Mountain, NC. Born in McDowell County to the late Willie James Porter and Mary Ellen Silvers Porter he was a retired employee of Old Fort Finishing and a member of Old Fort First Baptist Church where he served as Deacon for many years. He was also a member of Woodmen of the World. He was the husband of the late Nannie Codell “Cody” Porter.
Surviving are one son, Lloyd Porter and wife, Dolores “Dee” of W. Monroe, LA; one brother, James Bratcher Porter of Franklin, NC; 2 grandsons, Patrick Porter of New York City, NY and Kip Porter of Shreveport, LA and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11 o’clock Wednesday, April 19, at First Baptist Church of Old Fort. Rev Keith Hollar will officiate with burial following in McDowell Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6-8:30 at Kirksey Funeral Home, Old Fort. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, Annie Armstrong Mission Fund, PO Box 10 Old Fort, NC 28762.
