Robert W. Padgett, age 86, of Marion, died on March 20, 2000 at The McDowell Hospital. Born in McDowell County to the late Charlie E. and Ada Long Padgett. He was retired from the wholesale grocery business and a U.S. Air Force Veteran of WWII. He was active in all aspects of his church where he served as deacon at Pleasant Gardens Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Virginia Daves Padgett of the home; three sisters, Sallie Padgett Willis and Mildred Padgett Tate both of Marion and Nora Padgett of Nashville, TN; a sister-in-law, Lillie Mae Roddy of Candler, NC; he is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, March 22, 2000 at Pleasant Gardens Baptist Church. Rev. John Setchfield and Dr. Frank Deese will officiate and burial will follow in the church cemetery. Westmoreland Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00 pm on Wednesday, March 22, 2000 at Pleasant Gardens Baptist Church. Memorial donations may be made to Pleasant Gardens Baptist Church Rt. 4 Box 652 Marion, NC 28752.
