Elizabeth Lawing Bach Morris died January 11, 2002 at Grace Hospital in Morganton, NC. Formerly a resident of Marion, Mrs. Morris lived at Grace Ridge Retirement Center for 8 years. She was born in Rutherford County on December 6, 1920 to the late Samuel Lafayette and Mary Pricilla Ruth Lawing. She graduated from Brevard College and attended Nurses Training School in Spartanburg, SC. Mrs. Morris was a homemaker and seamstress. She taught sewing for Marion Sewing Center and McDowell Technical Community College. Mrs. Morris was a member of Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church in Forest City. She served as president of the Women’s Society and as a district reporter. She was a fifty plus year member of the Home Extension Club and American Legion Auxiliary having served as president and several state offices. She was past board member of the Farm Bureau Insurance Company. She was a member of the McDowell Hospital Auxiliary, a board member of West Marion PTA, a!
Brownie Scout Leader, and a 4-H Leader. Mrs. Morris is preceded in death by her husbands, Robert Bach and Jack Morris.
Survivors include Dr. Tom Bach of Brighton, England, four daughters, Suzanne Bach Mahar and her husband Robert Mahar of Anchorage, Alaska; Jacie Morris White and her husband Frank White Jr. of Marion; Angle Morris Hilburger and her husband Pete Hilburger of Clarksville, VA; Paula Clair and her husband Steve Clair of Marion. Survivors also include a brother, Sam Lawing of Forest City, and two sisters, Lois Holshowser of Charlotte, and Dorothy Jolly of Greenville, SC, six grandchildren, Emily Shaw, of Amsterdam, Tiffany Hughes Al-Maqtari of New Haven, CT, Trey White of Chapel Hill, Will White of Marion, and David and Beth Hilburger of Clarksville, VA.
Services were held at Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church in Forest City at 2 PM on Saturday, January 19. The family received friends on Saturday one hour prior to the service. The Rev. Bob Clinnard officiated. Kirksey Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
