Mr. Glen Baker, age 79 of Canton died Friday May 18, 2007 at Canton Healthcare in Canton, NC. A native of McDowell County, Glen was born on August 10, 1927 and was a son of the late J. T. Baker, Sr. and Cleta Caldwell Baker. He was a retired lumberman. His family will remember him as a beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.
Left to cherish Mr. Baker's memory are his wife Glenda Youngblood Baker of the home; four children: Gerald Baker of Swannanoa, Neal Baker of Charleston, SC, Tina Hopkins of Tiger, GA and Gene Baker of Old Fort; three step-children: Gail Whitmire of Lakemont, GA, John Gibson of Clayton, GA and Terry Smith of Clayton, GA; seventeen grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
A funeral service was held Sunday May 20, 2007 at 3:00 p.m. in Westmoreland Chapel. The family received friends one hour prior to the service from 2:00 - 3:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment was in Oak Grove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family c/o Glenda Baker 27 N. Main St. Canton, NC 28716. Westmoreland Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. An online register is available under OBITUARIES at www.westmorelandfuneralhome.com.
