I have had several responses to my question about a map listing the names of
streams and creeks. Most of them have been people looking for the same
information. For that reason, I am responding to the list as I feel it is a
topic of interest to many of you.

I found a map in the front of the book, Mecklenburg County, North Carolina
Deeds and Abstracts, 1763-1779 by Brent H. Holcomb, C.A.L.S. and Elmer O.
Parker. It does give a lot of the names of the steams and creeks, but the
writing is very small and didn't enlarge well on a copier. It covers an
area much larger than today's boundaries, including Polk, Rutherford,
Cleveland, Lincoln, Gaston, Cabarrus, Union, and Mecklenburg Cos. in NC and
Spartanburg, Cherokee, Laurens, Union, Chester, Lancaster and York Cos. in
SC.

Some of the names are spelled differently than the documents I have to
compare them with. Most notably is McAlpin's Creek. I have found 5
different references to that creek all spelled differently.

I will not scan this map to the net as I do not have permission, but it
would be a good one for someone to add to the Mecklenburg Co. GENWEB page.
And it might be a good project for someone living in Mecklenburg Co. to
check this with map an old map in the deeds office to see how it matches up.

I hope this has helped.

Merry Christmas.
