Greetings folks,
I was just wondering if there might be anyone on the list with connections
to my Mecklenburg Co. STEWARTS who could increase my knowledge.

The earliest Stewart that I've traced so far is Jefferson Stewart. He died
before 7/28/1845, which is the first date of his estate settlement papers.
His son, Andrew Jackson "Jack" Stewart, was born about 1838 in the Lemley
Township area (near Huntersville) and married Mary SLOAN, daughter of Susan
Sloan, according to the published marriage record from the Western Democrat
newspaper of Charlotte, NC. on 12/16/1857. Andrew Jackson Stewart is the
only child mentioned in the estate papers of Jefferson Stewart.

After the death of his father, Andrew Jackson Stewart had several guardians
including John C. JOHNSTON, Robert P. WILEY, John A. DEWEESE and then Fanny
Wiley (wife of Robert P.). He appears in the 1850 Meck. Co. census as
Jackson Wiley, age 12, in the household of Robert Wiley of Mallard Creek
Dist.

Andrew Jackson Stewart died about 1862 in Mecklenburg Co. leaving two
children, Elmer Andrew and a daughter S.W. Stewart. His wife died about 1874
and his children (being over 14 yo) requested that John F. Sloan be made
their guardian. I suspect that John F. Sloan was a relative of the childrens
mother, but haven't seen anything to confirm that, nor have I been able to
find a Susan Sloan.

I'd be interested in comparing notes with anyone who thinks we might have a
connection, or can help shed some light on the family.

cheers,
Tim Treadwell
