I would be pleased to receive the data you have on Private Joshua W. Bowman
of Co. F and also Daniel B. Teague of Co. E who was wounded with Joshua in
the same action on 2 April 1865 and taken prisoner. It was Daniel Teague
who described the violation of the surrender flag and the deaths of the many
men of Cos. E, F, and G on that day in which they were combined. Co. F
according to study of the 1983 NC Archives Book NC Troops 1861-1865 shows
Co. F was down to one officer(from AL) and 2 Sgts. on 2 April 1865; then
Lt.Tankersley was killed (at Five Forks), Sgt. Stanley had been wounded
"near Petersburg" & sent to a Richmond Hospital where he was imprisoned on 3
April, and the other Sgt.(Walsh) was captured at Jones Farm along with Simon
Cline, Robt. Lackey, John Bowman. Moses Teague, John A. Shook, Columbus M.
Rogers, in Co. E with Daniel Teague were also captured near Petersburg on 2
April along with David B. Little of G Co. Daniel Teague's claim to be an
eye witness is supported by the NC records showing he was captured at the
same battle . It appears to me that Cos. E, F, &G were by attrition made
into a weakened single Co. with few, if any officers. My picture of Joshua
W. Bowman is a portrait made in 1861 or during his 2 recuperation leaves he
was granted in 1863 and 1864. He is not in uniform. Have you seen the NC
Archives Book North Carolina Troops 1861-1865 edited by Dr. Weymouth T.
Jordan printed in Raleigh in 1983? It has a big bank of data on the members
of the 37th. I believe the 37 was always in Lane's Brigade. Most of Co. F
were from Wilkes & Alexander Co., Co. E was from Alex and Catawba Co., and a
review of the above book will give the original counties for the other
companies. My VA address is 9843 Pleasant View Dr, New Market, VA 22844.
My wife & I recently bought her grandparents homeplace in Yadkin Co. NC, so
I spent a lot of time there getting it fixed up for a future retiree home/
farm. Claude David Pope who is a Statesville Roofing and Heating Co. in
Statesville NC has a copy of the NC Archives books on NC Troops 1861-1865.
The phone at his office is (704)873-7261.
