Subject: [NCMECKLE] WAXHAW and Native Americans
Date: Sun, 09 Jul 2000 22:12:12 -0700

Within my extended family there are Rainwaters who are supposed to be
Native Americans. I don't know if they are Waxhaw or the other tribe,
whose name I can't think of right now or spell, but I think it's Catawba.

Is there any one who knows what type of housing these groups used during
the late part of the 1700s? Any source of pictures for that housing? I've
done searches on the web, but have not come up with anything other than a
general description of the name: Waxhaw. I'd appreciate your comments and
suggestions!!

In case any one would like to know more, this is the line of my cousin:
1-- Milley or Nelly Rainwater (1790- )
sp-Dempsey or John Dempsey Watkins (1798-1842) ,,North Carolina
2-- Rachel Watkins (1824- )
sp-Reddin or Redrick Mills (1820- ) ,,,England
2-- Drucilla or Drewella Watkins (1823-1909) ,,North Carolina
sp-John R. Tadlock (1820-1855) ,,North Carolina
sp-Malichi or Malachi or Mally M. Adcock (1810-1902) ,,North Carolina

Thanks much,
