Searching for any info on my Kennerly family. My grgrgrandfather was Elias
Wesley Kennerly b. 5 Jan. 1826 d. 1 June 1903. He lived in Mecklenburg
County, NC but I am not sure where he came from (what county). I think it
was one of the three below. Rowan, Cabbarrus, or Iredell. I am not sure
which one. He was married twice. First to Rosa Hall in the county where he
came from then to Elizabeth "Betsy" White. He also had children by both
wives. Their names were Nancy, William Andrew, Mary Jane, Esther Easter,
Margaret "Mag", Lettie Viola, Frank and Monroe B. Kennerly. I am not sure
which children were by which wife. I do know that Nancy died in 1939-40.
William Andrew b. 1862 d. 1940. Esther "Easter" b. 21 Feb. 1872 d. 27 May
1953. Margaret b. 2 Oct. 1874 d. 27 Sept. 1953. Monroe B. b. 30 June 1860
d. 14 Jan. 1886. This is all I know about births and deaths. I found some
of the cencus records for 1880 and 1900 for Elias Wesley Kennerly. This was
using the soundex method and the County was Meck.This is where I
guesstimated everyones age or year of birth, except those whom I have a
birthdate for from the graveyard at Trinity Methodist Church in Meck. Co.
Elias Wesley (Wes)Kennerly was in the Civil War. He was in the 49th NC
Company E. I could never find him in the roster books but someone told me
that he must have enlisted as E. William Kennerly, private. That is the
only Kennerly I could find in the NC 49th at all. The reason we know it was
the 49th NC is because we have his desertion papers where he was captured by
the Union. He was made to swear not to fight for either side ever again, as
were all of the men when released. If anyone has any info I would love to
hear from you. I may have something of interest to someoone in this family
line. I am anxious to hear from someone who might know this family or know
someone that does.
