Y-Purols Book Celtics

Basketball champions of the word, the original green-clad Celtics will
perform their court wizardy at the Armory here Wedneday, January 26 - as
announced in a exclusive News story, Thrusday, January 6.
The Y. M. C. A. Purols, a group of former college and high school
stars, regarded as the strongest team in the city, will furnish the
opposition.
Efforts are being made to book two fast college or junior college
teams for a supporting contest. If the promoters are successful in arranging
the latter game Charlotte cage fans would be offered the most attractive
program of the season.
The Celtics will be highly favored to take the local quint, but the Y
Purols figure to make a ball game out of it. A glance at the roster give the
impression that the Purols will be no pushovers
Samuel Bell, all-Southern guard at Duke and all-state three years
is playing coach. He will be in the starting line-up. The red-haired
Otis Skipper, a Central High product regarded by many as the best all-
around performer in the city, will be at center during most of the game.
Dave McCachren, member of the famous McCachren family
of basketeers, will be at a forward post. He once captained the University
of North Carolina five and was named on the all-southeren quint.
Then there is Bill Quick, last year captain of the Davidson
Wildcats, who is a clever guard: Joe Roth, a young man but veteran
player, and Chin McCall, center, Freddy Bass, guard and the dependable
Johnny Plummer at center.
