I found two Butler Cemeteries in Mitchell Co. this summer while visiting
there. Neither were easy to get too. Youthful strong legs are need or a four
wheel drive. There is a short way to get to one which is no doubt the one you
are looking for as it has the most people in it and I think I recall tombs of
Teagues, Forbes, as I was looking for my Francis family, but it has a locked
gate that I am told is opened for the Aug. decoration. I would like to return
there and copy the names on the tombs for those who cannot walk their. I copied
a few and have returned twice to see if the gate might be open again but it
was not. If anyone knows who owns it and who can be contacted to get into this
cemetery I would like to return in the spring when the weather is warmer.
Many of the cemeteries are on record at the Bakersville Library but I did
not find this one.
At one time it was the farm of Rev. George Francis and I think the
cemetery was started then and later owned by the Butler family. If anyone else knows
more about it I would welcome the information.
