Hi Cathy,

The Marriage Bonds of NC do no list any other James in Montgomery Co.,
but the one that married Rebecca. There is nothing else on the bond
except the date the bond was taken, which is 12 Dec. 1848 and the
bondsman, Isham Blake, with the witness N. Knight.
In case your do want to write for it, the Bond # is: 000084535, but you
shouldn't even need that, just the basic info.

There is one other James Batten, who took out a bond to marry Sally
Garner in Johnston Co. on 22 Jan. 1824.
90% of the Batten marriage bonds are in Johnston and Montgomery Co.

The county courthouse should have the actual marriage license register.
I'm sure you know that, bonds do not typically have information on the
parents, unless there is an additional statement saying they give
permission, in case of minority of either of the participants.
But, the actual license with the minister or J.P. return may have the
parents signing it or attaching a letter of permission.

So, your best bet would be to write the courthouse in Montgomery or go
there.

The archives aren't going to have the marriage licenses anyway, unless
someone has published them and placed the book, in the library or archives.
Because, as you know, the records for marriages don't start that early
(as a state regulation) in NC.

Hope this helps.
Sue
