My great-great grandfather was Benjamin Glover of Linville, Virginia (Rockingham County). He had 13 children, of which 7 were boys. Half of his family (4 of the boys) used "Glovier"; the other half used "Glover." I knew both. I was told there was an argument in the family in the middle of the 19th century, and some of them put the "i" in, but I doubt that is correct. The Civil War records lists them both ways. Benjamin did have a son named Benjamin, my great-grandfather John's brother. He also had a son named Derrick. I have various records.
