I got this info from the New Hanover County librarian:

We know there were as many as five hospitals in Wilmington during the war.
They operated at various times and places. There are no records that
survive from these hospitals. The Confederates burned the local records as
they were fleeing from the encroaching Federals who occupied the town in
1865.
If you are looking for a soldier who died at a hospital during the war, I
could check some local cemetery records and obituaries for the period. Let
me know.
