Nathanial McGufford was in N.C. abt 1750 and most likely came over directly from Scotland. Nathanial Sr. always went by McGufford and lived at one time inSt. James Parish. He died abt. 1795.

February Term of Court 1811-Commissioners made report on division of lands, 1251 acres of William Gufford among four legatees,: Hannah, Margaret, samuel and Ann-
Lot 1. Hannah to have half of Marsden survey, 220 1/2 begin at gum on Long Creek in 1st line of survey on S/s of creek, then run directly across sd creek to the third line so as to equally divide survey.
Lot 2. Margaret to have other half of Marsden Survey.
Lot 3. Samuel to have White Oak Plantation of 200 acres, with 210 acres added it being Motte entry.
Lot 4. Ann to have Hockory Hill Plantation of 200 acres with another 200 acres added purchased from Ma bson. In all 400 acres.
