Tidbits of Old Orange County History ....James TURNER and David CRAIG

It has been passed down that James Turner came from County Down in Ireland,
settled briefly in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, thence to the area
called Hawfields in Orange County. James Turner purchased 200 acres from
the agents of the Earl of Granville.
James Turner married Mary Patton in 1735
Their known proven children: there were more but I have no proof of them.

James Turner married Rebecca Clendenin
Nellie Turner married James Craig of the New Hope area of Orange County,
son of pioneer William Craig. David Craig was a member of the North
Carolina Continental line of the Revolution. He died in 1785 and is buried
in the New Hope Cemetery.
Nellie Turner and her husband Davis Craig gave fifteen acres of their land
for the establishment of the University of North Carolina.
