Hello Eleanor Marshall,

I am not sure if this is the same family or not, but there was a William
Swaime Marshall, born ca. 1795, married to Jane Brooks, who settled in Person
County, NC, date unknown to me; one of his daughters, Mary Ann Marshall,
married in 1824,my great-great uncle, John Henry Fox, and settled in Gordon
County, Ga in the 1850's. Mary Ann had a brother, Willis Lafayette Marshall,
who married my great-greataunt, Elizabeth Royster in 1874. Needless to say,
Lafayette was considerably younger than his sister.

The other names that you mentioned in your posting, i.e. Mary Vestal, and
others, lead my to believe that your William Marshall, or at least Mary
Vestal was part of the Cane Creek Quaker Settlement, which is now found in
Alamance county, NC. The Vestals had connections with the William Jay family
who settled in Caswell County, NC. William Jay was married to Mary Elizabeth
Vestal, whose mother and brother, William Vestal settled in the Cane Creek
Settlement. I wish that I could make a complete association here for you,
but I do believe that there must be some connections between the Marshalls in
Person/Caswell and the Orange/Alamance Vestals, and the Jay/Vestals of
Caswell County.

Best regards,

John Fox
