Subject: [NCROOTS-L] Surname ALEXANDER, Alfred - 1811

Hello All....
I am new to the NC List, and have just begun my search for the surname of
ALEXANDER, Alfred , who states as being born in NC in the AL, Calhoun
County, 1870 Census, he also was FREED in the Marengo County, AL 1866
Schedules.

Prior to 1866, I have had no success in locating him., and fear that the
trail might finally stop. Does anyone have any suggestions re: research for
an obviously enslaved man prior to 1866.? Before which time I am unable to
locate anything! (I do realize that research must be completed in Marengo
Cty, AL for possible slaveholder info), but the daughter of Alfred and
following family have most interesting moving habits. From AL>NC>IN>AL>NJ>NY
( 1870-1938).

Anyone have any experience with such travels or any suggestions at all! THANK
YOU!
