Indentured servant was the nice way of saying slave. Yes, they got a ride on
a boat to the new lands...but they were required to serve/slave for the
person during their contract period. Basically, slavery with a contract that
the person usually couldnt get out of.
I have seen old articles from PA newspapers that listed their runaway mick
(Irish) and listing a reward. Told what he was wearing all the way down to
describing his coat buttons. Gave a reward for "capture". It was identical to
runaway slave notices in the south.
Yes, in America there was more than one nationality in slavery. I am not
saying that slavery was right, or how they were treated in the south was
right...so lets not start any arguments. I'm Irish, my ancestors might have
been Mick servants...I havent found their records yet (My brickwalls).
