Hi,
I am interested in your exchange regarding wills. A number of years ago,
between years in college, I worked for a law firm--father, son and
daughter-in-law. They were heavy smokers with a little alcohol now and
then. I often witnessed wills drawn up by these lawyers.
About 15 years later, after I had married and my last name had changed, a
friend told me that there was a notice in a nearby newspaper (where I had
worked) looking for me by my maiden name. It seems that all 3 lawyers were
now dead, and circumstances had occurred that they were desperately looking
for the witness--me.
I called the number they gave, went to court and testified to the
authenticity of the will and my witness signature, much to the relief of
SOME of the people involved.
Doris

I do know that a witness to the will cannot be an heir in the will. Of
course your will was nearly
300 years old, so I have no idea of the legal requirements
