I was reading the recent upload of the pension papers of Thomas Cowan
of which I really appreciate, as Thomas and Mary are my 5th great g/parents.


I have a question, was this transcribed from court records or the original
bible?
I noticed that there is a Sylvia listed,
my gggg g/mother was Lydia Cowan, who married James HYDE
d/o Thomas and Mary, she is not listed below,
however, her birthdate is Jan 3 1779, which is listed next to SYLVIA
could her name be Lydia Sylvia or Sylvia Lydia
or could this be a transcription error Look at Sylvia vs. Lydia
I know sometimes L's looked a lot like S's, I found this alot in North
Carolina census. Please remember, I'm just asking?

Jean Cowan was born February 28th. AM 1784
Elizabeth Cowan was born Septemr 24th. AM 1785
James Cowan was born February 2d. AM 1788
Aable [sic] Cowan was born October 4th. AM 1789
Agness Cowan was born December 27th. AM 1792 [Note: Nancy is written to
side]
Abigail Cowan was born September 18th. Am 1794
Hezekiah Cowan was born March 29th. AM 1796
Levina Cowan was born November 16th [of?] 1799
Thomas Cowan Departed this life Decembr 4th 1817 in the seventieth year of
his
age
Mary Cowan departed this life on Friday the 5th day of August 1836 at 7
oclock
