If you receive ANY attachment that appears to come in response to a message
you posted on NCROOTS, but includes the phrase
look to the attachment
and then has an attached file with an .exe, .pif, or .scr extension, please
1) do NOT open the attachment
2) send me a copy of the complete message you received, including the headers
and
3) go to
http://www.sarc.com/avcenter/
and follow the links to BadTrans to learn about this virus (more correctly
a Trojan horse) and to make sure you completely remove it from your system.
There are at least a couple of people reading NCROOTS who have been
infected with this thing in the past couple of days, judging from other
mail I've gotten. I've sent them messages about it, but would like to make
this general announcement to all of you:
**Failure to clean up your computer in response to such a message from me
will result in your being unsubscribed from the NCROOTS list.**
If those of you who receive suspicious mail will send it on to me, I'll
know who sent it to you, and will be able to take action.
Don't worry about sending me the virus - this particular one only infects
PCs, and I use a Mac, so it won't hurt my computer.
